In partnership with the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston and facility provided by Congregation Emanu El Houston, we will be running Hurricane Harvey Houston Day Camp, a program for those who need childcare while taking care of their lives in the wake of Hurricane Harvey at Congregation Emanu El (1500 Sunset Boulevard. Houston, Texas 77005) beginning on Thursday, August 31st.
We are looking for volunteers high school age and above to help us run this program. Anyone with a love of children and time to spare are encouraged to apply. Below is more information on the program as well as roles and responsibilities.
*NOTE* If you are a family interested in enrolling your children in this program, stay tuned! Registration forms for Hurricane Harvey Day Camp will be released by e-mail later this evening.
Hurricane Harvey Houston Day Camp is a great way for children to get a chance to have fun with other kids from across Houston, while giving parents the time and space to take care of their homes, cars, and other responsibilities they may have after this tragic week.
The Day Camp will be open to children potty-trained through middle school. We will have three units: Toddler, Elementary and Middle School, and the campers will be sorted into “bunks.” A day will consist of time with their bunks, arts and crafts, sports, and other fun games and programs.
The day will run from 8 AM until 5 PM. A sample schedule looks like this:
We will be providing three meals a day, including a breakfast and dinner that entire families are invited to attend. In the coming days, we also hope to bring supplies at pick-up and drop-off that will help you and your family recover from the storm.
We will have security on site.
We are looking for educators, camp counselors and facilitators to help us run this program. Depending on your experience and expertise, we will find a role that suits you best. We could also use volunteers to help with logistics, meals and operations of our program.
We are also looking for nurses and medical professionals to help onsite. We would also welcome any interested mental health professionals.
If this is something that interests to you, please fill out this form. We will have an orientation by phone tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30th, and work will start on Thursday, August 31st at 7:30 AM. You will be provided with three meals a day. This is also a great opportunity for high schoolers to earn volunteer hours.
Please pass this on to others who might be interested as well.
As a reminder, URJ Greene Family Camp is still open for those who need a place to stay. Please give us.a call at 254-859-5411 and fill out this form.
We hope that you and your family is staying strong and safe. You are in our prayers, and we look forward to working with you as we take steps closer to recovery.
