Annie Abramowitz is a junior at the University of Texas at Austin. She is a Jewish studies major and possibly a sociology minor. She hopes to work someday work in the Jewish community. In her free time, she like spending time with her friends, watching TV, and reading. Her favorite meal at camp is breakfast potatoes. This will be Annie’s second year on staff, and she can’t wait to spend another amazing summer at GFC!
Arturo was born in Puebla city and he lives with his family. He really love the British culture and in 2012 he had the opportunity to study a couple of weeks in UK. Arturo loved music since he was a child, and he is now studying musical production and artistic administration. He has a band called Niland and their songs are now available on Spotify! Arturo enjoys traveling to the concerts in Mexico City. Arturo has been in 170 concerts. Now Arturo is very exited to work at Greene Family Camp this summer. It is his first time in United States. This will be his fourth country after Guatemala, France and England.
Lucy Alpert graduated in 2017 from University Liggett School in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. She will be attending the University of Oklahoma this fall where she hopes to study Spanish and Chemistry. She enjoys spending time with her friends and loves to read. Lucy plays field hockey and soccer. She is very excited about being the Soccer Specialist this summer and meeting such a diverse group of campers and staff members! This is Lucy’s 1st summer on staff and 10th summer at GFC!
Gefen Assor was an Non-commissioned Officer of education in the international relations unit in the Israeli army, has been studying theater for over 10 years and will be teaching drama camp. She was a Sea Scout for 3 years. In that time, she gained experience working with groups and individuals
She loves children, lives in Herzliya, Israeli, and this is going to be her first summer at camp.
Carly Aufdem-Brinke is a recent graduate from the University of North Texas with a B.S in Behavior Analysis. She has been a special needs care taker for the same family for the past 2 years, and is now applying for jobs in Austin as a Special Education teacher. She has always had a passion for working with children with special needs, and cannot wait to combine that passion with her Judaism this summer! In her free time, Carly enjoys being part of her sorority, Kappa Delta, and spending time with friends and family. She is always looking for something new and exciting to do, and can’t wait for a new adventure in Austin. This is Carly’s first year at GFC, and she is so excited to be a part of the Camper Care team and to get to know each and every one of your kids!
Jessa “Ellie” Barmish
Ellie Barmish is a second year counselor currently attending Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. She is a Political Science and Spanish double major and hopes to be involved in foreign service work after graduation. This is Ellie’s 11th year at camp and she is so excited to be back for another amazing summer. Her favorite part about camp is the friends you share camp with and the new friends you make year after year.
Gal Barzilay is 22 years old. She was born in Tel-Aviv on the 17th of September 1994 and lives in a city called Yehud. She started her way in the scouts, participating in the activities of her local scouts’ troupe called ‘Mashohot’- (the Hebrew word means ‘Torches’). She took part in the Scouts for nine years: 6 years as ayoung member and 3 years as a guide and head of the seventh grade group which consists of 70 member and 10 guides. In 2013, she joined the IDF Ground forces as a commander for new recruits in a unit called ‘Magal’, teaching them and guiding them through their first steps in the army.
After this course, she went through an officer’s course at the IDF Training Base and became a platoon officer. She had a lot of projects in this role like: weeks we had in the fields, many journeys, education lectures, and contributing to the community.
Since she was a member of the scouts she knew she would like to return, so this summer is a really great opportunity. This will be her first time at the Greene Family Camp and she will be in charge of the Israeli Scouts area called- TZOFIM!!
In her free time, she enjoys going to the beach, creating art and watching movies.
Hannah Berlin just finished her first year at the University of Texas at Austin. She started off as a music major but is now pursuing a degree in All-Level Special Education. She loves animals, being outdoors, and traveling, and one day hopes to travel to every continent. Hannah was a camper at GFC for 4 years and this will be her first year as a counselor.
Gal Binshtok is part of the GFC Israeli Michlahat. Gal enjoys spending time with his friends and family, movies, photography and sport events. He is very excited about being a camp counselor for the first time at GFC and sure it will be an amazing summer!
Jacoby Boyer currently attends the University of North Texas as a Super Senior, he is studying Political Science, Philosophy and Public Administration as a combined degree focused on International Conflict and Mediation. Jacoby hopes to enter politics early in his life with human rights and income inequality between rich and poor being his most important topics. When Jacoby is not at school or camp he is likely reading philosophy, Albert Camus and Absurdism being his favorite. He is ecstatic about the chance to see his campers again this year in Kibbutz and to return to the ropes course where he spends a large fraction of his time. This is Jacoby’s 2nd summer on staff and camp having never been to Camp growing up.
Shayna Brochstein is a second year staff member and has been attending GFC for the past 12 summers! She is currently attending the University of Kansas and is majoring in community health in the hopes to one day become a nutritionist. Along with her love of being a camp counselor, Shayna likes to spend her time cooking, hanging with friends, and watching videos of dogs on Facebook. She can’t wait to return for another amazing summer!
Alexa Brown attends Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX.She is a 3rd year staff member who has been at camp for 10 years total. She’s looking forward to being back at her home away from home!
Joy Cohen-Blake is a 2017 high school graduate from Ball High School in Galveston, Texas. Joy loves to hang out with her friends at the beach or her house and she also loves to watch Netflix. She has been to camp for 11 years and is super excited to come back as a counselor. Joy is attending Galveston Community College for a year then transferring to Sam Houston State University to major in Forensics. She is also super excited to come back and see all her friends!
Nitsan is a hip hop dancer, break dance teacher and choreographer for 10 years. He won first place in the World Hip Hop World Championships in 2014 along with his 10 year old student.
He udges and competes in international fields. He also likes surfing, bodybuilding and managing a healthy lifestyle. He is a presenter of the most prestigious contestants in the world ‘World of Dance.’
He has appeared on television shows, live performances with artists, clips and television commercials.
Jimmy David just finished his Sophomore year at Sam Houston State University. Jimmy spent the year working at Raising Cane’s and also work retreats at camp. Jimmy loves to spend time with friends and watching or playing sports. He is extremely excited to be a counselor for the Avodah program and to be apart of the ropes course staff again. This summer will be Jimmy’s 3rd summer on staff and 12th summer at camp.
Dan Eliyahu , 21, from Ma’ale Adumim which is a small city near Jerusalem. Currently a soldier serving in an intelligence unit. He took part in the 2011 Israeli Seeds of Peace delegation as a camper, which was his first and only summer camp experience. Dan loves playing and watching basketball, mostly trying his best to keep up with the NBA. He also loves video games, movies and any other geeky stuff which is why he is so excited to be a STEM counsler at GFC this summer!
This is Gretchen Englander’s 10th summer at GFC, and her 2nd as a staff member. She currently attends the University of North Texas, pursuing a degree in psychology with a minor in philosophy. In her free time, Gretchen is often found climbing, reading, or making friendship bracelets, and is very excited to be an art specialist this summer in addition to being a counselor! If you ever need to identify Gretchen, she will most likely be wearing her hair in a side-braid on the left.
Katie Evilsizer graduated in 2016 from Oklahoma State University with the degree of Zoology. She just recently got engaged and is working at a Veterinary Hospital that works on small animals and pocket pet exotics. Katie enjoys singing, dancing and bowling with friends, She is excited to teach for the second time at Greene Family camp by working at the Zoo.
Josh Friedman is happy and excited to be returning as Challenge Course Director for his 7th summer on staff and 14th at camp. His chief interests are neuroscience and education, adventuring, rock climbing, travelling, and reading. After graduating from Trinity University with a degree in Philosophy and Marketing, Josh spent 3 years teaching and travelling at home and abroad in Israel, Europe, and Asia. For the last year he has worked as a Ropes Manager for Fort Bend ISD, facilitating high school and middle school students’ challenge course experiences in both exemplary leadership and at-risk settings. This summer he plans to continue to learn from everyone at camp how to learn and facilitate joyfully safe experiences in an impactful and meaningful way.
Iris is a university student at the mexican school ‘BUAP’ She studies tourism and hopes to work on ecotourism projects at the end of her degree. Iris enjoys spending time with her friends and sometimes she is a volunteer in a daycare where she plays with children and helps care for them. She is very excited to be part of this camp, it is the first time that she will be as support staff in a camp and for her first time at GFC.
Jake is a third year counselor from Denver, Colorado. This will be his third year on staff as a counselor, meaning that he will be one of the Cornerstone counselors. He will also be fulfilling the role of self-defense specialist once again, and is super excited to do so. In his free time, Jake enjoys spending time gaming, hiking, and doing Krav Maga.
Hi my name is Graham Gadd and I live in Plano TX. I teach Science, STEM, and Robotics at Ereckson Middle school in Allen, TX, and I have been in the same position for 17 years. I was born in South Africa and moved to Israel when I was 20. I worked for NFTY for 13 years where I met my wife. I moved to Plano in 1999. We have three kids that will be attending camp this summer
Rachael Garcia graduated from Plano West Senior High in 2017. She is planning on spending her first year of college in Israel on Year Course with some of her best friends that she met at camp. Rachael enjoys spending time with her friends and also making new friends. She loves talking to people and meeting new people. She is very adventurous and loves summer time!! She is very excited for her first year on staff and all the opportunities it will bring to her. This is her first year on staff and 5th year at camp.
Revelle Gerson grew up in Colleyville, Texas with Bobbee the Glassmaster and Dennis. She spent two years at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and is now pursuing a degree in Religious Studies and Gender Studies at the Univeristy of Colorado in Boulder. This will be Revelle’s 11th year at GFC, 5th year on staff, and 2nd on leadership. She is looking forward to showing campers and staff how to work with clay and make some awesome pottery pieces!
Jodi Gibbs is currently attending Tarleton State University going into her second year there. She’s pursuing a degree in the communications field focusing on public relations and event management. She’s spent her freshmen school year getting extremely involved on campus within Greek Organizations, volunteer tour guides and various other organizations! This summer will be her second year on staff and her sixth summer at GFC! She’s extremely excited to meet everyone and see what the summer holds!
Hi! Angela is currently in her second semester of college at Richland Community College in Dallas, TX. She is a part time nanny for two kids ages 6 and 3 and she loves spending time with them. She enjoys spending time with friends and people but she also likes being alone and reading or catching up on my favorite shows like Grey’s Anatomy or Sons of Anarchy. She is very excited to be working at camp this summer; she was a camper here for seven years and can’t wait to continue her years here at GFC!
Daniel Gostein is from Austin, TX and will be attending the University of Texas at Austin next year to pursue a Music Education degree in Percussion. This is his 11th summer on camp, but his first as a Staff member. Daniel Tutors for B’nai Mitzvah, umpires little league baseball, and roots on his Texas Rangers in his free time. He is thrilled to be a counselor at Greene this year and to pass on the awesomeness that camp gave him for so many years. He will be bringing several musical instruments to camp, and hopes to have many jam sessions in the cabin!
Naomi Grant, a Cornerstone Fellow, will return this year for her 11th summer at the greatest place on Earth, her third summer on staff and second as journalism specialist. Naomi’s permanent residence is in a shtetl in the Cleveland, Ohio area, though she lived in the best state in the country (Texas–duh) once upon a time. She attends the University of Maryland where she’s majoring in international relations because that’s what you do in Washington, and minoring in Spanish. She also works for UM’s independent student newspaper, The Diamondback.
Marissa is super excited for the Summer of 2017! She loves camp and all that it has to offer including the Jewish involvement, lifelong friendships, and interpersonal skills that she has gained from being a part of camp. She started as a young child in Bonim and now at the age of 22 she can say that her camp journey is not over. Camp is her home and this summer she will be the Niviim unit head! She cannot wait to be in this role for the second year and bond with the campers and staff. During the year, Marissa is a student at Texas Woman’s University and is studying 4th-8th grade education and seeking certification in ESL. She is also a dog lover and has a goldendoodle named Dirk. Marissa is so excited to call GFC her home for the Summer of 2017!
Joel Herman graduated from JJ Pearce High School in 2017. During High School he played for the varsity baseball team and was also involved in other extra curricular activities. He was also spent a majority of his time with his BBYO group. Next year he will be studying business at a 4 year university (undecided).
Taylor is student at St. Edwards University in Austin, TX. She is currently studying Graphic Design while doing photography on the side. She is excited to start her second year on staff at camp, which she has considered her home for 12 summers!
Rachael Hunt is an upcoming Junior at The University of North Texas where she is studying Social Science and Jewish Studies. During the year she taught Sunday school at Congregation Kol Ami in Flower Mound and served as Vice President of her Hillel. Rachael loves hockey, pugs, and hanging out with friends! This summer she will be Assistant Director of Education and she can’t wait to spend her third summer with her favorite people at her favorite place!!!
Aldo Allende was born in 1995, at age 7 he was interested in music and listened to lots of fine rock and new metal. At 11 he started playing guitar and formed a Deathcore band at 13. He started studying musical production and artistic administration at 19 in UEH (Universidad Empresarial Hispanoamericana) and he is graduating in December 2017.
Now he has a Synth-Brit-Pop project called Niland, in which he composes and plays guitar. They released the first EP in 2016 along with some lyric videos on Youtube, iTunes, Spotify and Google Play and their 2nd EP will be released in Winter 2017.
He is a movie buff and his favorite writer is the German Hermann Hesse.
This is his first time in GFC and in the USA, he longs to meet a lot of people and hopefully friends.
Lindsay Kaitcer was a GFC camper for seven years, and will be returning this year as a 1st year staff member. She is from Oklahoma, but has lived in Los Angeles for the past few years. She will be a freshman at California Polytechnic University SLO, and she will be studying business. In high school she was a student athletic trainer, board member for multiple clubs, and the champion of her NBA fantasy league. She is always with friends, whether it be going to the beach, exploring LA, or traveling together! She is so excited to be coming back home to her Greene family, and knows it’s going to be an amazing summer!
Melanie Kaplan has been working with children since 1986. She holds degrees and certifications in general education, special education and as an educational diagnostician. Melanie is looking forward to enjoying the Greene Family Camp experience with all the campers as a member of the Camper Care team.
Shira Karp has been going to camp since she was in Bonim and this will be her first year on staff! She just graduated from JJ Pearce High School in Dallas Texas. She plans on attending a small school in Florida called Nova Southeastern University to study special education and occupational therapy. She loves playing basketball and was on her high school team all 4 years!! She is super excited to finally be on staff and cannot wait for this summer!!
Noam Keinan, 20yo, is part of the Israeli Mishlachat this year. It will be his first year at camp.
Noam was a counslor in the Israeli Scouts throughout his high school and during his army service as well. He is now a soldier in the Israeli army in the adjutant corps. Noam lives in a Moshav called Rishpon in the center of israel with all of his family and lots of animals around.
Eliana Klein is originally from Frisco, TX. She is currently a Junior studying Audiology and Speech Language Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado. And because I know you are wondering, she unfortunately has not gone skiing yet! After college, Eliana wants to work as a speech language pathologist. During the school year, she works as a campus tour guide and is very involved in JewNC, her school’s Jewish Student Union. This will be Eliana’s 3rd summer on staff and 10th summer at camp. Over those 10 years she has realized she can’t choose between mac and cheese day and breakfast tacos for her favorite camp meal. They are both too good! Eliana can’t wait to have an amazing summer at GFC!
Rachel is a senior English major at the University of North Texas in Denton, but she is originally from Houston. Rachel is excited to finish out her last year at UNT and become certified to teach high school English. This is Rachel’s 7th summer at camp and is her fourth on the amazing GFC staff team. Rachel loves to swim in the pool and in the lake all summer, and she really likes Nikayon (clean up time); she thinks Nikayon teaches responsibility and now realizes that cleaning is a skill everyone needs when they get to college. Rachel loves to make new friends every year at camp, and cannot wait to make amazing memories with friends old and new while at camp this summer, but she is most looking forward to spending the summer with her sister who hasn’t been with her at camp since 2010.
Robin Kohnhorst is currently a junior at Texas A&M University studying Nutrition Science. She hopes to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in the future! Robin loves spending time with her friends and sorority sisters, as well as cooking. She is very excited to return to GFC for the first time since she was a camper. This will be Robin’s first summer on staff and second summer at camp overall. She cannot wait to be a Counselor and Nutrition Therapy Assistant this summer and help her campers have an amazing summer!
This will be Jacob Kopit’s 4th summer as a counselor and lifeguard at GFC. He also spent several summers here as a camper and an Avodah, so GFC truly is his summer home. During the non-summer months, he is a substitute teacher in Hutto, Texas. He also attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas. He is really looking forward to another summer at Greene.
Yarden is Kibbutz Rosh Hanikra, Israel. He is 25 years old. In 2010, he joined the army to become a combat soldier in infantry unit (Givati). In 2013, he was released and made a trip to South and Central America for three and a half months.
In my daily work, he works in informal education with children in first grade.
He mostly loves sports, singing, running, laughing and having fun.
Skylar Kramer will be attending Stephen F. Austin State University as a freshman this upcoming Fall. She enjoys dance (she started taking lessons at age three!) and competed in a national dance competition with her high school poms team her senior year of high school. Skylar is an animal lover and currently has two dogs, two cats, and a horse. This will be her first summer on staff and tenth summer at camp.
Brianna Kreditor is studying to major in Health and Wellness Promotion and minor in Sport and Exercise Science. She is planning on studying disease prevention and learning about optimal health to reduce factors in getting ill. Brianna enjoys living in Austin, spending time with friends and being outside in the Texas heat. She is very excited to be working in the Avodah program as an Avodah counselor this summer! This is Brianna’s 5th summer on staff and 7th summer at at GFC!
Alexa LaCour just recently graduated from high school and will be attending Indiana University in the Fall. She will be studying Exercise Science and Jewish Studies in the hope of becoming a Physical Therapist after she graduates. Alexa enjoys spending her free time with her friends and family and loves to stay very active. This will be her 7th summer at GFC and she is very excited to be a first year counselor as well as the new volleyball specialist and can not wait to spend her time with the campers and make so many amazing memories!
Dana Lash lives in Mevasseret Zion, Israel. She finished the army in February 2017 as a network director and IT support in a combat unit. Dana has also been part of a pre-army program, supported by the Jewish Agency, called Kol-Ami that brought together Jews from around the world. She likes to spend her free time swimming and hanging out with friends.
Roni Lavi finished school in 2014 and enlisted in the army in 2015. In the army she was a sports instructor at the base for new immigrants. She has been a gymnastics instructor and trained children for 3 years. In camp, she will be a gymnastics instructor. This is her first time at camp and she’s very excited and waiting for camp.
Amanda Leventhal is currently studying psychology at the University of Missouri and will be entering her senior year there this fall. She is from Fort Worth, Texas and is an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. In her free time, she enjoys singing, reading, and watching sports. This is Amanda’s 3rd summer on staff and her 4th summer at GFC, and she’s looking forward to taking on new leadership roles this summer as a Cornerstone Fellow and Songleader!
Molley Lisner will be attending her second year at Texas Woman’s University in the fall as a Junior and will be continuing working on her Sociology and Psychology degree. Molley has spent many years working with children from being a lifeguard at summer camp to being the go to babysitter on the block! She is extremely excited to get to come back to camp for her first year as a staff member, but her 7th year at Greene Family Camp. Molley can’t wait to be a part of the best summer ever for each and every camper, as every summer at GFC was that for her!
Eli Loewenstern is a student at the University of Arizona. This is his 9th summer at camp and 2nd on staff.
Brian Lovelace, graduate of University of Arkansas in 2017 with a degree in Criminal Justice. He spent the last year finishing up his senior year participating in internships at Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Fayetteville Police Department. Brian enjoys having fun in the sun with friends which typically includes, sports, hiking, etc. He is very excited to be one of Assistant Ropes Course Directors. This will be Brian’s first year on leadership but fourth year on staff and third year on the ropes course staff.
Erica Mackler graduated from the University of South Florida in 2016 with a degree in communications. When she is not at camp working as the media/ video specialist, she is traveling the world working on cruise ships as an audio/ visual technician. She loves working on ships but couldn’t stay away from her favorite place on earth and cannot wait to come back to camp for her third year on staff. After camp she will go back to working on cruise ships but wanted to spend another amazing summer at camp! She cannot wait to make more amazing memories at camp this summer!
Zach graduated 12 th grade from Heights High in Houston.He will attend HCC in the fall to begin working on a career in Journalism. He has been an Ozrim at HCRJ over the past 4 years and has loved every minute of it. He plans on returning to be a Sunday School teacher. His favorite pastime is ‘ everything basketball’ , Stefan Currey and Golden State Warriors.
He hopes we can have a memorable fun summer at camp and that his campers can enjoy it as much as he did when he came to Greene.
Blake Margolis is graduating this year (June 7th, 2017), summa cum laude, and will be attending the University of Texas at Austin next year. He will be majoring in Electrical Engineering, and will be one of the STEAM specialists this year at GFC. He is excited to get campers involved in engineering, and hopes to inspire some of them to consider STEM careers. He was heavily involved in his school’s Solar Car Club, (Plano Academy) Titan Solar Car Team. Last year, the team drove their car (The STEAM Engine) 229.6 miles of the way from Ft. Worth to Minneapolis, MN.
Jason Marks is a graduating senior from Grapevine High School. Next year he will be attending Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. In his free time, he likes playing games and spending time with his friends. He has gone to camp every year since 2nd grade, and participated on both the Garin Greene and Avodah programs. Jason is super excited about this summer and is counting down to Opening Day!
Kevin McKenzie has just graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a degree in music (Vocal Performance). He is excited to begin the next phase of his life, whatever that may be. He plans to become a Cantor at some point down the road but is currently searching for jobs at synagogues and at Hillels around the country. Kevin is pumped to continue his tradition of working at a Summer Camp for the summer in his 8th Summer working at a camp and his 2nd at Greene! Coming back to be a songleader for the second summer in a row, Kevin is really looking forward to working with this amazing songleading team again and working with such a Sababa staff!
Valeria Meza is currently in her 2nd year of college studying International Relations. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling with her friends and going for walks with her little dog. She also likes to read, draw and paint.
This is her first year as a staff at GFC and she’s very excited to meet new friends. She knows it will be a great experience!
Halle Michel attends the University of Denver where she is a Psychology major and active in the campus Hillel and Chabad. Originally from San Antonio, she enjoys gymnastics, hiking, and doing volunteer work. This is Halle’s first year as a counselor at GFC and she is excited to meet the campers and have a fun-filled summer!
Zack Miller attends the University of Texas at San Antonio, and is currently studying Cyber Security. Zack enjoys spending time with his friends and going on adventures. He is very excited to be back for his 5th summer at GFC and his 2nd on staff!
Maya Milsom Graduated from Lyman High School in 2017. Will be attending Florida Atlantic University in the Spring to study theatre. Maya enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and pets. She is also an avid photographer and loves learning new things daily. This is Maya’s first year at Greene Family Camp as well as her first year going to camp ever. She looks forward to meeting everyone this Summer!
Isaac Narrett graduated from Fort Worth Country Day High School this year. He has been attending Greene Family for the past 11 summers. Isaac has been involved in Jewish life throughout his life, having a large role in Dallas BBYO and being a teacher aid at Beth-El in Fort Worth. He loves playing sports and swimming in the lake at camp. His favorite camp meal is grilled cheese. Isaac is very excited to finally be a camp counselor!
Maddie Newman recently graduated from Carroll Senior High School in Southlake, TX and will be a freshman at the University of Oregon this fall, studying Public Policy. Throughout high school she served in various leadership positions in NFTY-TOR, interned with her town Mayor, and worked as a nanny for a local family. This will be her first summer on staff & 10th summer at camp and she can’t wait to help create memories and fun for her campers.
Bar Ofeq is 20 years old from Naharyia, Israel. She served as a photographer in the Israeli navy. Bar enjoys spending her time reading books and watching movies. In October, she will start a special education age 6-21 and science for elementary school degree. She is very excited to be a counselor and a photography specialist in the camp this summer. This is Bar’s first summer at GFC.
Leya Van Os
Ben Portugal is going to Schreiner university in Kerrville, TX with a major in Business. His first camp bunk was in Kohaniem with people he still are friends with today and counselors who have been at GFC for a long time. As an Avodah(Counselor in Training) he was a judge for Maccabia. He judged the whole maccabia games. He is an Eagle Scout. He has the Gold Award which is getting 200+ volunteer hours. He has been at GFC for 5 years.This is his 1st summer as a counselor. He is very excited to be your son’s counselor for the summer.
Abby Rast is a student at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is studying communications with a minor is music marketing. Abby enjoys hanging with her friends, taking road trips, and anything to do with food. This will be Abby’s 9th summer at Greene and 3rd summer on staff, she is also a Cornerstone Fellow this summer. Abby is super excited to be back and to meet all the campers.
Jorge Matias graduated from The ‘ Universidad Autonoma de Puebla ‘, graduating in chemistry in July 2017. At the moment he is finishing his social service, he plans to do his thesis in a hospital in the city of Puebla, Mexico. He is a young worker, optimistic, honest, persevering, he likes to play sports and be active most of the day, loves soccer, is very excited to make this trip to meet new people and their culture.
Michaela Rollins is a long time camper and staff member at GFC. During the year, she is a graduate student at SMU studying design and innovation. This summer, she will be working as the Avodah Unit Head training the next generation of GFC staff! This is her 17th year on camp, 7th on staff, and 3rd as the Avodah Unit Head
Ayelet is a soldier in the 8200 unit of the Intelligence Corp. She completed her high school education with full matriculation in 2015, in the areas of computers, economics and psychology.
At the age of 11 she joined a competitive swimming team, continuing there for six years. She participated in swimming competitions throughout the country.
In my day-to-day life she enjoys sports, swimming, jogging, kickboxing, zumba, etc.
Over the years her family has gone on many trips, both throughout the country and around the world, out of a love of nature and of the Land of Israel. Some of these trips were quite challenging and included mountain climbing and repelling, skiing, long-term trekking that called for sleeping in the open and mountain climbing.
Ron Rozen was released from the army 3 months ago. Since he was released he was working and went with friends to surf. He was camper at URJ Crane Lake Camp and he is really excited to be the instructor of the biking team.
Rebeca Ruiz is studing Marketing at Universidad Madero in Puebla, Mexico. She speaks English and German. After her classes, she works in a doctor’s office. Rebeca enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She is very excited to start a new experience in Greene because she want to improve her English skills and she want meet new people from different parts of the world. This is Rebeca’s first summer as member of the kitchen staff team.
Jennifer Sands is a second year student at Texas Woman’s University with a major in Elementary Education. She was born and raised in Dallas, TX with an older brother named Joel. Jennifer is involved with her sorority Sigma Sigma Sigma as well as the Campus Activities Board at TWU. Jennifer enjoys working out, hanging out with friends, and watching movies. This is Jennifer’s second summer working at GFC. She is looking forward to getting to know the campers and counselors as well as having a great summer at camp!
Lyubov Sapanchuk graduated in 2015 from CUNY Hunter College with a degree in Nutrition and Food Science. She is currently working on her Master’s in Nutrition at Hunter College. In her spare time she volunteers at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. Lyubov enjoys exploring the outdoors, going to new restaurants to try new foods and spend time with family and friends. She is very excited about the change in scenery and spending the summer at GFC as a Nutrition Therapy Specialist (NTS). This is her first year at GFC.
Eyal Schwarzwald will be a table tennis instructor this summer. He starts University in October.He likes sport, music, scuba diving and spending time with friends but his favorite thing is to laugh.
Jay is a rising sophomore at the University of The Incarnate Word in San Antonio,Texas, pursuing a degree in Sports Management. He has spent the past year as student manager of the UIW Women’s Basketball team. He is looking forward to this fall as this will be the first year of the University officially being a Division 1 school, and hopes to take his team all the way to the 2018 Women’s Final Four in Columbus, Ohio. Aside from school and managing the team, Jay is cheering on the greatest team in the NBA, the San Antonio Spurs, at every game possible. Jay is looking forward to spending the summer at GFC as this will be his 2nd summer on staff, and 2nd at camp.
Guy Shabot is a new member of our israeli Mishlachat, a newly discharged Soldier from the IDF. During high school, he was part of a Young Entrepreneurship Movement, there he took part of an electricity-saving project. Generally, Guy enjoys spending most of his time in the kitchen- cooking various foods and pastries, but other hobbies he likes include drawing and playing various board games with his family. This is his first summer at GFC, and he is super excited of meeting the new campers and staff!
Lior Shlossberg, in 2011 -2014- Graduated from ‘Ironi Hey’- Haifa High school graduate- full matriculation certificate. Own Social certificate.
In 2015-2017- simulator instructor, Navy. She has extensive experience in training and guiding-
‘Israeli Scouts’- 8 years member, and guide for two years. 2012-2014- ‘Camps 2000’ Haifa- summer camps and Passover camps guide. 2014-2015- ‘Orot Haifa’- gymnastics instructor’s assistant. This is Lior’s 1st summer as a counselor, and she is very excited about that!
Michael Shiller attends the University of Texas at Austin majoring in Health and Society. This is Michael’s sixth summer here at GFC, his third on staff. He enjoys spending time with his friends and attending any sporting event. He is very excited about being a Kibbutz counselor.
This fall, McKenzie will be a senior at the University of Kansas majoring in elementary education and minoring in linguistics. McKenzie started spending her summers at GFC in 2004 as a Tavor Texan in the Bonim unit! This will be McKenzie’s 4th summer on staff and 13th summer at GFC. She’s looking forward to being the Bonim Unit Head as she works with an incredible staff team and introduces GFC’s Bonim campers to the magic of camp!
Mackenzie Skoller is going into her third year as a pre-med student at Texas Tech University. She is president of Hillel at TTU and enjoys being engaged in Jewish-life activities around her college town. She is looking forward to spending her summer working in the infirmary at GFC. This is Mackenzie’s 9th summer at camp and 1st as a staff member!
Itai Sprinzak was born in Israel on September 23, 2000. At the age of four, Itai and his family moved to Pasadena, California due to Itai’s father’s work, and returned to Kiryat Ono in Israel at the age of ten. Itai likes to hang out with his friends, play soccer and learn new stuff. Itai is a part of the Israeli Scouts, and the Scouts are a major part of his life. For the past two years, Itai has been a counselor of 5 and 6 year old children, meets with them twice a week, and does fun and educational activities with them. Itai is so excited to be the Tzofim specialist this summer at GFC, he can’t wait to be there already!
Shira Stevenson just graduated from UNT with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Jewish Studies. She currently works at Temple Shalom in Dallas, and at Summit Climbing, Yoga, and Fitness. For fun she enjoys climbing/working out, playing with music, and hanging out with friends. This summer Shira will be working as the Logistics Director. This will be her 9th summer on camp and 5th on staff.
Jason Thompson attends the University of North Texas, studying English. Jason enjoys watching/playing sports, playing video games, and hanging out with friends. He spent his time during the year attending school, and working as a delivery driver part-time. This will be his 10th year at camp, and 3rd on staff, and is extremely excited to be the best counselor ever!!
Rebecca Topper is a rising sophomore at Rice University in Houston, TX. She is originally from Peachtree Corners, GA and is interested in seeing what a summer will be like in Texas. Rebecca is planning on majoring in English, with a minor in Environmental Studies. Rebecca enjoys reading (which she does a lot of for her major), playing piano, and Irish dancing. This summer at Greene will be Rebecca’s second ever time at Jewish summer camp, and she is excited to experience camp as a ropes course counselor!
Fred Traylor is a native of Oklahoma City, but currently attends college at The University of Texas at Dallas. There, he studies sociology, focusing on the intersection of religion and the environment. Fred enjoys spending time with his friends and imagining ways to solve all of the world’s problems. He is very excited to return to camp this summer for his third year as a staff member and his 7th year at camp.
This is Stephanie Turek’s fourth summer at GFC. Prior summers she had spent partial time as a staff nurse and charge nurse. This summer she is now an employee of the URJ and spending the entire summer with us as our Head Nurse of Health & Safety and will continue working throughout the year for planning purposes and working as the nurse for retreats. During the school year she is employed as as a school nurse in Liberty Hill ISD. Stephanie enjoys spending quality family time with her husband, three children and granddaughter. She loves relaxing by the water (lake, pool or ocean), reading and is an avid movie watcher!
Leya Van Os
Leya Van Os was born in Austin, Texas. She started going to camp family retreats at a very young age and has been coming every summer since 2008. Leya loves playing piano and dogs. She loves working with every age at camp, but is very excited to be working with some of the oldest campers this summer!
Ryan Yablonsky will be a college freshman at the University of Texas at Austin in fall of 2017. He enjoys anything related to basketball and skateboarding. Ryan has been an active member in his BBYO chapter ever since he was a freshman in high school. This will be Ryan’s 7th year at camp and after a great summer as an Avodah last year, he is more than excited to be a first year counselor!
Yulie is going to be attending the University of Texas at Austin in the fall, majoring in Neuroscience. She is super excited for her third summer at camp and first year on staff!
Daniel Zarum was released from the army service in 2017. He served as a helper of a brigadier general, and At the same time of his service, Daniel worked as a professional magician and a balloon artist. Daniel is specializing at performing magic for children, as well as performing magic tricks with cards and sleight of hand. He is a member of the Israeli Society Of Magicians. Daniel enjoys playing the guitar, spending time with his friends and exercise Kung-fu and Capoeira. And above all, Daniel is exited to start his first summer in the GFC family!
