Aaron Platt is a current student at the University of North Texas, and is going into his Sophomore year of college. He was an active member of Jewish youth groups in high school, and is currently an extremely active member of Jewish life on his campus. Aaron loves to be outside and spend times with friends when he isn’t studying. This will be Aaron’s 7th summer at GFC and 2nd summer as a counselor. He is very excited to be back at camp as a counselor this summer.
Brahm Walter is a Californian turned Texan currently studying in Austin after having taken a gap year. He has been at GFC since high school starting in Kibbutz and continuing as an Avodah for Greene. Brahm enjoys about any outdoor sport and spending time with friends & reading. This will be his second summer as a staff member and as an Olim fellow.
Adam Dov Horovitz
Adam Dov Horovitz, 22, recently finished his 3 year army service in the IDF. He went through a couple of different combat units, and for his last year was the combat medic, driver and communication soldier of the commander of Etzion Brigade. Before the army he trained in karate, and has a second degree black belt. He graduated from the High School of the Arts in Jerusalem, and majored in film.
My name is Alexa Brown. I am from Carrollton, Tx. I am going to be a sophomore at Tarleton state university. This is going to be my 9th year at Greene! I’m looking forward to being at my favorite place!!!
Ally Karpel is a rising junior at the University of Texas at Austin, where she is very active at Texas Hillel. She is a speech-language pathology major with a certificate in early childhood intervention. This is Ally’s 8th summer at camp, and her 3rd summer as a staff member. Her hobbies include singing/watching Broadway musicals, being outdoors, and playing with cute kids. Needless to say, she is very excited to be in Camp Kattan this summer!
Alyson Luskey is an aspiring photographer specializing in portrait and sports photography. She is currently attending school pursuing a degree in secondary education and loves working with kids of all ages. This is Alyson’s first time ever at summer camp and she is super excited to be able to help capture all of the excitement going on at GFC as one of the Photography Specialists.
My name is Aly. I have been attending GFC for 10 years now, and I wouldn’t rather spend my summer anywhere else. I love camp, and I can’t wait to help campers have the same great experiences that I did. I will be attending Stephen F. Austin State University in the fall as a freshman to study psychology. I love to have fun, and this summer is going to be a blast!

Anat (Anna) Treiger is a freshman at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering with a specialty in Microelectronics. She enjoys spending her time with her friends, and taking hikes with her dog. Anna was part of the Ashdod swim team through out high school. Anna enjoys the theater and the classical ballet a lot. Anna is looking forward to coming this Summer to GFC to be a STEM counselor.
Annie Abramowitz graduated the Emery/Weiner school in Houston, Texas in 2015. She attended the University if Texas at Tyler for the pas year and will attend the University of Texas at Austin starting in the fall. She plans on majoring in Jewish Studies, but she is still unsure of what she wants to do with her degree. Annie enjoys spending time with her friends and watching movies. She is very excited about spending her first summer at GFC!
I am 21 years old, after the army. This is my first time on camp. I like to dance salsa, read books, play guitar and watch movies. I am very excited and looking forward to start this adventure, to meet new people and to gain tools for life.
Hi! My name is Ayala Meir and I’m from Jerusalem. I just finished my army service in the IDF. I like dancing, traveling and arts. I’m very excited to be a part of GFC!!!
My name is Aylen and I will be a senior this upcoming fall at Lorena High School! I enjoy reading,socializing, being around friends and family, being active, and playing tennis when I have the time. This past year I was a member of the National Honor Society at Lorena as well as a Peer Assistant Leader, Spirit Leader, and a member of the Lorena High School Tennis Team!
I’m very excited for my first year at camp as a counselor. I’m looking forward to bringing smiles to the campers faces just as my counselors did. Making an impact on them is my number one goal. I love working with kids. It has always been a skill of mine to be able to work with them. Aside from camp, i’m looking forward to college as well. I’ll be attending UTA, come August, to pursue computer science, hoping it leads me, one day, to move to Israel and work there. It has always been my dream. But without Greene Family camp, my experiences and wishes of Israel wouldn’t be what they are today.
Blake Grabsky graduated in 2015 from J. J. Pearce High School in Dallas, Texas. He spent the year tutoring middle and high school students in algebra and geometry. Blake enjoys spending time with his friends, and playing video/card games. Blake is very excited to return to GFC this summer as a bunk counselor. This will be Blake’s second summer as a bunk counselor and sixth summer at camp!
My name is Brianna, I am currently in my 3rd year of college studying kinesiology for health promotion. I enjoy spending time with my friends and traveling when I have the time. This summer will be my 4th summer on staff and 6th summer at camp! I’m excited to meet new fiends and work with camp kaftan this summer. I can’t wait for another fun summer at GFC!
Caroline Kaden is going into her sophomore year as a Chemical Engineer at Northwestern Universtiy in Evanston , IL. She spends her extra time dancing, tutoring, and working with students at the universtiy Hillel. She is very excited to spend another summer at the best little jew camp in Texas, her home away from home!
Casey Lampert is currently a Plan II and psychology major at the University of Texas at Austin. She’s a proud Longhorn and member of Alpha Epsilon Phi, and can frequently be found wearing tons of burnt orange. This will be her second year on staff, and she can’t wait to spend another amazing summer at GFC!
Danna Gal graduated in 2013 from Ben Gurion University with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and education. She is currently finishing her Master’s degree in school counseling at Tel Aviv University. Danna enjoys eating pizza, going to the movies and riding in golf karts. She’s very excited to be coming back to GFC for the 5th time, mostly to get her 5th year jacket (but also to be rosh mishlachat and a part of the camper care team)!
Hi my name is Dafni Hardan, I live in Tel-Aviv, Israel. I graduated in 2014 from the Thelma-Yellin high school of arts in Tel-Aviv. In addition to the classes of ordinary high-schools, I studied theatre, musicals and drama. I was a soldier in the IDF for two years until this February and then I did the Psychometric test (like the SATS of Israel). I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, I enjoy dancing, swimming and going to the cinema. I can’t wait for camp! See you there!
My name is Doron Gertzovski, I live in ‘Avichail’ – a small village near Netanya.
I am 20 years old. I have studied 6 years at ‘Avichail’ school & 6 years more at ‘Ramot hefer’ High school. I have graduated dance & psychology department, part of my matriculation certificate. I am a member of ‘Havazalot Netanya’, folk dance group, who represented Israel all over the world: China, Russia and France. I dance different types of dance : ballet , modern , folk , salsa and more. I’m also a dance instructor in the young groups of the ‘Havazalot’ dancers. Before my service in the army I worked as a Substitute teacher in ‘Avichail’ school. I serve the army as a military comander of education & Israeli geography. I finished my military service in March 2016 .
Doug Kerr graduated this past May from the University of Maryland with a degree in Dietetics. He begins his Dietetic Internship in September and looks forward to growing professionally while having fun as the Nutrition Therapy Specialist at GFC. This is his first summer as a member of the GFC staff — he has never visited the state of Texas. He loves to golf and hang out with friends during his free time and is not afraid to announce his passion for the Washington Redskins, even in Dallas territory.
Dylan Garner, currently a sophomore at Bruceville-Eddy High School. I enjoy animals and reptiles, along with football, spending time with friends, and hanging out at the lake. I spent some time volunteering at Critters Exotic Pet Store, which is where I developed my passion for animals and reptiles. My love for animals and the water led me with goals to pursue a career as a marine biologist.
Elana Turczynski is going into her second year at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She is double majoring in Political Science and Public Policy. She is the Vice President of her school’s Hillel and is very active in the Jewish sorority, as well as many other on-campus activities.This is Elana’s second year at GFC and she can’t wait to have a great time with all of the campers again!
Elhanan Ballas is a member of the IDF Mishlachat, coming to GFC for the first time. He grew up and spent his whole life in Israel. Elhanan is an avid fan of all aspects of basketball – from following NBA feeds, to playing and coaching. He also enjoys other sports and spending time with friends. He’s thrilled to come to GFC to teach, learn and of course have a lot of fun with campers. Let the summer begin!
Eli Loewemstern is graduating from McCallum High School in Austin, Texas. He will be attending the University of Arizona in the fall. Eli enjoys playing and watching basketball as well as most other sports. Eli has been a camper at GFC for 7 summers, spent last summer as a Avodah and is excited to be on staff this summer.
Eliana Klein is a sophomore at the University of Northern Colorado. She is majoring in Audiology and Speech Language Sciences. Eliana’s goal is to work with kids as a speech pathologist one day! She is so excited to be returning for her 9th summer at camp and second year on staff. After spending the school year in Colorado, Eliana is can’t wait to bring her Lexus to Bruceville, Texas. Just kidding, she does not drive a Lexus but she is definitely super pumped for GFC summer 2016! This summer, she is most excited for camp mac and cheese, lake days, and above all, to give her campers the best summer ever!
Erica Mackler will be the Video and Media Counselor for the second year at GFC! She just graduated from The University Of South Florida with a degree in Communications. She is so excited to come back to camp and make awesome videos of camp! She loves making videos especially ones of camp and cant wait to see what this year will bring!
Erin Binder is in the Jewish Education program at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. After spending a year in Israel, Erin will be headed to NYC in August. She is originally from Austin and a member of Temple Beth Shalom. She has spent many years teaching all ages and engaging with the Jewish community. Erin also has a masters in International Development and has spent time traveling and working in non-profit. She is very excited about returning to camp after 10 years and being on the Education Team this summer. This is Erin’s 3rd summer on staff, and 6th summer at GFC!
Fred Traylor is a native of Oklahoma City, but currently attends college at The University of Texas at Dallas. There, he studies sociology, political science, and environmental science. Fred enjoys spending time with his friends, thinking up new systems of government, and imagining ways to solve all of the world’s problems. He is very excited to return to camp this summer for his second year as a staff member and his 6th year at camp.
My name is Graham Gadd. I was born in South Africa and moved to Israel at the age of 20. I am fluent in English and Hebrew and served in both the South African army and IDF. I have a wife Ondria who will also be working at camp this summer. We have three kids, Evyn age 12, and twins Micah and Rachael aged 10. My thirteen years in Israel I was an educator for NFTY and led many tours in Israel during my summer vacations. I currently work in Allen ISD as a science teacher. I teache science, STEM, and robotics. I am looking forward to working at camp this summer as a unit head and helping with the STEM program.
Gretchen Englander has spent a total of 9 summers at camp, going all the way through every unit as a camper to attending Garin Greene and participating in the Avodah program last summer. Gretchen enjoys long walks by the lake, making friendship bracelets, tie dying, reading, and archery. Her favorite camp meal is GFC mac & cheese, and she LOVES song session and Shabbat services at the Beit Knesset. Gretchen will be attending the University of North Texas in the Fall for psychology, and hopes to one day join camp’s Camper Care team. She is very excited to come back to camp this summer as a first time staff member and anticipates seeing her old friends and making many new ones!
Guy Goren is a member of the 2016 mishlachat from Israel. Guy graduated from high school in 2011 and volunteered for a whole year in Beer-Sheva before the army service(Shnat-Sherut). In November 2012, Guy joined the Paratroopers Brigade as a combat soldier and went to commanders course right after he finished his training. Guy served as a senior sergeant during Protective Edge operation and got released from his army service on November 2015, about 8 months ago. Since then Guy worked for the Scouts and taken the SAT Test. For the past 2 months, Guy has been hiking the amazing ‘Israel Trail’. This is Guy’s first time at GFC and in the US in general.
Hailey Cassidy is a student at The University of Texas at Austin. She is pursuing a degree in biochemistry. Hailey enjoys spending time with friends, running, and any out door activities. She is very excited to be a ropes course specialist and counselor this summer. This is Hailey’s 9th summer at GFC and second summer on staff and she is looking forward to all the fun this summer will bring!
Hana Epstein graduated from the University of Oklahoma this past spring with a degree in Elementary Education. In the past Hana has been a bunk counselor, cornerstone counselor, arts & crafts specialist, and assistant arts & craft director. Hana is excited about joining leadership this summer as the assistant activities director. This will be Hana’s 5th summer on staff and 10th summer at GFC!
Hannah Kay just finished her first year at the University of Texas at Austin as an advertising major. She loves to spend her time hanging out with friends and watching her favorite TV shows. She is obsessed with Beyonce and believes that drinking water is the cure for everything. Hannah is excited for her second summer as a counselor and ninth summer at camp!
Hila Ben Yosef
Hila Ben Yosef graduated in 2013 from Ben Tzvi High School majoring in theater and computer science, and got out of the army in 2015,after serving in the intelligence force. Hila was in the scouts for 8 years- 3 of them as a counselor, and she was also a counselor in horseback riding camp. Hila enjoys spending time with her friends and family and she LOVES animals! She is very excited about being a counselor in GFC this summer for the first time,and cant wait to meet all of the campers.
Jack Callahan is from San Antonio and played Varsity golf on the Alamo Heights High School team. He plans to study chemistry in college and is very involved in social organizations at school. Jack loves water skiing, dancing, and playing basketball. He has been going to Greene for more than ten years and is very excited to be on staff this year.
Jake Gabel is a second year counselor from Denver, Colorado. Jake attends the Metropolitan State University of Denver with a major in English and a minor in a teaching license. Jake is involved with the Sinai Scholars program run out of the Chabad on the Auraria Campus (the Auraria campus is host to three colleges: University of Colorado @ Denver, Community College of Denver, and Metropolitan State University of Denver). In his free time Jake loves hiking, gaming, and has been doing Krav Maga for about three and a half years, and has become a licensed teacher in Krav Maga. He is super excited to be the Self-Defense specialist as well as a counselor this summer, teaching kids about safety while also teaching them to protect themselves.
Jacob Jew attended GFC as a camper from 2002- 2009. In Spring 2011 Jacob attended NFTY’s Eisendrath Internation Exchange program in Israel. After the powerful experience in Israel, Jacob decided to make Aliyah and become a citizen. In July 2012 Jacob moved to Israel, and in November of that year, was drafted into the IDF as a combat tank driver. After serving in operation Protective Edge, Jacob was honorably discharged from mandatory service in May 2015. Since then Jacob has moved back to Austin, and will be attending Austin Community College in the coming Fall semester.
Jason Thompson is a sophomore at Oklahoma State University, studying English with an option in screen studies. Going into his freshman year of college, he received the Presidential Leadership Award for achieving over 1000 hours of community service over his four years in high school. This will be his tenth year at camp, second as a counselor. He has worked with All different ages of kids, ranging from 5 to 15, so he can take on any sort of challenge thrown at him. Jason enjoys playing sports of all kinds, writing, and acting, along with being at camp!
Jay Seline graduated from Walt Whitman High School, in Bethesda, MD, in 2015. He is a proud native Washingtonian, who became an official Texan in late 2015. Jay has served with City Year San Antonio; a non-profit organization, where he worked with students who were at risk of dropping out. In High School, Jay was very active in BBYO and served as a teacher at Washington Hebrew Congregation for four years. Jay will be starting college at University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, majoring in Sports Management, and will be serving his first summer at GFC. Jay enjoys spending time playing basketball and cheering on his San Antonio Spurs.
Jeffrey May is a rising sophomore at The University of Kansas. Jeffrey has been a camper at GFC since Niviim and will be a second year staff member this summer. Jeffrey enjoys his time at camp and loves helping new campers have great summers just like he did when he was a kid. This summer Jeffrey will be an in bunk counselor as well as the Volleyball Specialist. Jeffrey can not wait for the summer to start!
Jennifer Sands is a first year student at Texas Woman’s University with a major in Elementary Education. She was born and raised in Dallas, TX with an older brother named Joel. Jennifer is involved with her sorority Sigma Sigma Sigma as well as with North Texas Hillel. Jennifer enjoys working out, hanging out with friends, and watching movies. This is Jennifer’s first time working with GFC. She is looking forward to getting to know the campers and counselors as well as having a great summer at camp!
Jessa (Ellie) Barmish
Ellie Barmish was a camper 9 years and this will be her 10th summer at GFC! She has recently graduated from Anderson High School in Austin, Texas and will be attending Rhodes College in the fall. She was very involved in high school as the Vice President of Key Club and Leadership council, as well as, helped create Austin’s newest BBYO chapter. Additionally, she was involved in a mentorship program for children throughout her senior year called PALS. Ellie loves spending time with her friends and has, in fact, met some of her best friends at GFC! She is very excited to join the staff for the first time and is looking forward to the summer!
Jimmy David is 19 years old. He will be attending Sam Houston State University in the fall and plans to graduate from there with a Bachelor’s in finance by May of 2017. Jimmy loves to play basketball and watching all sports. This summer Jimmy will be the basketball specialist and is excited about this position. This will be his 2nd summer on staff and his 11th summer at camp.
Jodi will be attending Tarleton State University this fall with the attentions of majoring in Forensic Chemistry. She graduated from R.L PAschal this past school year and worked throughout the year at Lonestar Gymnastics as a pre-school coach. Jodi enjoys spending time within the Jewish Community being a former member of BBYO and spending any of her free time with her school friends. She’s super excited to spend her first year on staff with your children and be returning to camp for her 4th year!
Joey Lutes is a student of the coaching academy at Texas Woman’s University- where he is working towards his degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Dance Studies and Education- and the president of his fraternity, Kappa Sigma. Joey has experience in coaching all types of sports, teaching physical education at elementary levels (and will be working with middle/high school students in physical education in the fall) and also has experience mentoring and helping at-risk students. One of Joey’s highest priorities as a coach is athlete safety: he is a lifeguard instructor and is certified by the Red Cross in first aid, emergency oxygen, CPR and AED use. Joey is an avid student of American Football- his bookshelf is filled with coach biographies, position and strategy books- and aims to coach in the NFL. In his spare time, Joey can be found reading, playing outside with friends, teaching people about football, or practicing his other skills. Joey is excited for the opportunity to join the GFC family and to have the chance to go to summer camp and work with his twin brother, Sammy.
Joseph Satterwhite graduated in 2015 from Breckenridge High School in Breckenridge Texas. Joseph has been involved in live-stock his whole life. He believes in equal rights for animals and has raised animals his whole life.
Josh Friedman graduated in 2013 from Trinity University in San Antonio with a degree in philosophy and marketing. He has spent the last 3 years since travelling to Israel, Europe, and Asia to learn about, and work in, education abroad. This summer, Josh will be the Challenge Course Director and in charge of Staff Development while also continuing a new experiential education program centered on FUN Learning! He is fantastically excited about all the possibilities and superawesome times to be had at camp this summer and can’t wait to get started! This is Josh’s 3rd summer on the Leadership team, 6th summer on staff, and 13th summer at GFC!
Josh Halff will be returning to camp for his 11th summer at GFC. He is currently an incoming sophomore studying Aerospace Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, and a brother of the Gamma Deuteron chapter of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. Before college, Josh served as Membership Vice President for the Texas-Oklahoma Region of the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY-TOR). Josh enjoys performing magic and creating games and science experiments.
Josh has his GED for the State of Texas, and has been getting his basics at San Antonio Community College. Josh enjoys playing sports and staying active with friends. He is Stoked to be a counselor this summer and can’t wait to bring his positive energy to his campers. This is Josh’s 1st summer as a staff member, and 10th summer at GFC!
After the death of my father in 1995, life was very hard. All of my father’s properties were taken by the clan Members and my mother had to to start a new life with 8 children. Education was a dream as my my mother could not afford to pay my school fees. My grandfather of 85 years offered to pay my school fees. After my elementary level, I was worried of how to pay my high school fees, a miracle happened in 2002 when a group of Rabbis from Israel and North America through KULANU visited my community and carried out the Bet-Din where I was part of. KULANU offered to pay tuition for all the youth and I was a beneficiary. Today I have a degree in Public Administrations and Management. I founded Tikkun Olam Nursery and Primary School to enable Jewish students have a near by Jewish school teaching Jewish Knowledge and circular Education and currently I am the school director. Finally life is a journey, I will be working had with my campers to enable understand their different responsibilities a head of them and life in my country as well as learning from them. Katie Evilsizer graduated in 2016 from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Zoology and an emphasis in Veterinary Sciences. This year she has received the CORD award for obtaining over 400 volunteer hours in her undergraduate career. For the past three years she has been working at a Veterinary Clinic in Edmond, Oklahoma as a Veterinary Technician. Katie enjoys all types of animals, including her two Huskys, Titan and Koda. She is very excited to be working at the camp zoo this summer and teaching campers about animal safety and care. This will be Katie’s first summer with GFC but she was a strong member of NFTY and event goer. She is enthusiastic about teaching and caring for the animals.
Kevin McKenzie is going into his 9th summer at a summer camp, but his first at GFC! Kevin has held many roles at summer camps and on the stage. He just finished his 4th year at the University of Colorado Boulder studying vocal performance (with a Hebrew and Israel Studies minor) and has now performed in countless genres ranging from Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance to Barbershop and High Holy Day Services. In his free time, he tends to hang around the baseball diamond catching, throwing, and singing pitches while talking about the newest season of House of Cards. This summer he will be a songleader who is looking forward to seeing and hearing all that GFC has to offer!
Hi my name is Lex Freeman, I am a sophomore and a sociology major attending Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. I have 3 siblings that also go to camp. I have gone to Greene all my life and this will be my 14th year at camp. This will be my 3rd year on staff and I will be an in-bunk cornerstone counselor. Greene is my home away from home and I always enjoy going to camp every summer. I have had many great counselors as a camper and I try to model them and be as great as they are with the kids that I am a counselor for. I have made many of my friends at camp and always know that they are there for me. I am glad that Greene is more than just a camp but also helps the campers express and discover their own path in their Judaism. I have Greene to thank for helping me with my Judaism and is why I am a part of my Hillel at school and still try to learn as much as I can about Judaism. I have had so many happy moments at camp. one of my favorite was last year when I was the Aluf for the green team during Maccabiah. I know that this summer will bring another bunch of great memories like that one. One of my goals is to travel with birthright back to Israel because I loved my trip when I went with Greene. My sister will be going on that trip this summer. My favorite parts of camp are the lake and the challenge course. I know that this summer will be one of my favorite. I love seeing my old friends at camp and I can’t wait to meet new friends as well. Can’t wait for Summer 2016 @ GFC! It’s G-R-E-E-N-E family camp Yeehaw!
Leya Van Os
Linor Halpern finished her army service in the IDF on July 2015. There, she served in an intelligence unit.During high school Linor was the counselor of a group of 12 year old children, in the youth group ‘Ha’machanot Ha’olim’. Also She participated in photography courses, and is going to be a photography counselor in camp. Linor enjoys traveling, sports, music and being with her friend, and is very excited about spending her summer in Greene Family Camp!
Lior Khayat finished serving in IDF in 2016. During her service she was part of the education branch.
She educated soldiers about Israel and other things. Before the army when Lior was in high school she was in the Israeli scouts at first as a 6 grad counselor and then She was in charge of all the counselors of the 5th grade.
Maddie Weiner is from Plano, Texas and will be starting her freshman year at the University of Missouri this upcoming year. This is Maddie’s first year on staff and fifth year at GFC. Maddie enjoys playing soccer, going on adventures in nature, spending time with friends, and binge watching Grey’s Anatomy. She is super excited for new experiences and challenges this summer and being back at her second home!
Marissa Haber is a student at Texas Woman’s University. She is currently working on getting a degree in 4th-8th grade general education with a minor in ESL. During the year, you can find her walking her BIG dogs, and drinking green tea lemonades from Starbucks. Marissa has spent 14 summers with Greene and considers it her second home. She is very excited about having the opportunity of being the Niviim Unit Head this summer!
Maya Van Os
McKenna Gessner is a Plan II Honors and Chemistry double major at the University of Texas at Austin. She spent this last semester teaching math at a local elementary school with the UTeach program. She also enjoys theatre and playing tennis! McKenna is very excited to come back to camp this year for her 11th summer–she absolutely loves GFC!
McKenzie Sigle will be a junior at The University of Kansas this fall majoring in elementary education and minoring in linguistics. This year, McKenzie is serving as a Roswell K’lal Yisrael Fellow and is looking forward to sharing her new understanding of global Jewry with the GFC community this summer! McKenzie started spending her summers at GFC in 2004 as a Tavor Texan. Some of McKenzie’s favorite camp memories include spending time around the campfire, sharing ruach during Maccabiah and climbing the alpine tower. McKenzie is so excited to share her love of GFC with campers this summer during her 12th summer at camp and 3rd summer on staff!
Michael Shiller is a Sophomore and will be attending the University of Texas at Austin majoring in athletic training. He finished his freshmen year at the University of Texas at El Paso. Michael enjoys spending time with my friends and playing basketball. This is his Fourth year at Greene Family Camp. Michael is very excited to be returning to Greene another year.
Michaela Rollins graduated from Indiana University in 2015 with degrees in Psychology and Art History. She has spent the last year teaching art classes in Dallas and attaining a certificate in Graphic Design. Michaela will be attending SMU in the fall in pursuit of a Masters of Arts in Design and Innovation. She is excited to be able to return to camp as the Avodah Unit Head! This is Michaela’s 2nd summer as a member of the Leadership Team, 6th summer on staff, and 16th summer at GFC!
Molly Paley graduated in 2016 from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She will be attending Duke University in the fall. Molly loves to dance and is looking forward to all the Israeli dancing at camp. Molly is so excited to be a counselor at camp this summer. It will be her first summer on staff and her ninth summer at GFC!
Moriya Shahar finished her military service half a year ago and since then worked a lot. Before the army she attended a pre-military academy. The two last years of high school she spent in an international college in a beautiful village in Norway, studying with people from all over the world. She loves meeting new people and from different countries and cultures, as well as travelling to new places. Therefore she is planning a big trip around the world after camp- starting from Spain and then going to Nepal, Thailand and more and more. She loves children, sports and nature and can’t wait to go to camp!
Naomi Grant is super pumped to return to camp this summer for her 10th year, second year on staff and first as journalism specialist. She is most recently from Beachwood, Ohio, the suburb of Cleveland where all the Jews live, and goes to the University of Maryland, where all the Jews go. Naomi is majoring in government and politics in attempt to save the world and minoring in Spanish because she figured not doing so would be like quitting at mile 25 of a marathon. She works for her school newspaper, The Diamondback, and covers political advocacy, religion and LGBT affairs. She can’t wait to share her passion for journalism with campers and create a camp newspaper that’s (almost) on par with her favorite paper, The Wall Street Journal, but slightly more localized.
Nathan Martinez graduated high school in 2015 from Bruceville-Eddy. He then attended McLennan Community College for two semesters. Nathan will begin his second year of college in the Fall of 2016 at Texas Tech University to earn a degree in History. He enjoys hanging with his friends from his home town and will miss spending time with them when he moves off to Lubbock, Texas. This is Nathan’s first year at college and he is very excited for the experience and to be apart of GFC.
Niv Kadouri studied chemistry and physics. During the school Niv was actively involved in the Diller Fellowship and he went to Montreal on a mission. A year later Niv went through the program as well. He traveled to Ethiopia where he volunteered for three weeks with friends from Montreal.He served as a combat soldier in the paratroopers. During his time, Niv commanded the soldiers and trained them as commanders and fighters to be better. Niv was released in March 2016 after the army full service as a fighter, during which attended various military operations. This summer, he will teach kids magic and help with ropes.
Noah Kopit graduated from Southwestern University this May with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Theatre Arts and Communication Studies. This year he wrote his senior theses’ over Transgender Politics in Hedwig and the Angry Inch and the Male Gaze in the shirtless scenes from Marvel superhero films. After the summer he will be acting in Austin. Noah enjoys staying active and participating in and watching sports. He also loves taking long walks on beaches and lakes, which is all well and good because he is the Lake Director at Greene Family Camp this summer. This is Noah’s second year on Leadership Staff, 5th year on Staff, and 7th year at GFC.
Omer Barsheshet graduated from Leo-Beack High School in Haifa, Israel , in 2012 – and continued to a 3 years service at the Israel Defense Forces. He really loves working out at the gym , and expanding his limits to the maximum. In his free time when he was a student he volunteered at the ‘Aharai!’ youth leadership organization which develops your ‘inner leader’.This will be Omer’s first camp experience as a counselor and together with excitement – he hopes for the best, good time , and learning everyday a new thing , from a new person!
Paige recently graduated from Memorial High School this past May in Houston and is headed to New York City this fall where she will study political science and modern Jewish studies at Columbia University. She likes to spend time with friends, cook, and do arts and crafts projects. Paige is excited to start her first summer on staff and return for her 12th summer at Greene!
Phincas Ziraba Emmanuel
Presley Lisner has worked at camp two previous years. During the school Presley attends Collin College and works as an infant teacher at a daycare. She enjoys reading as much as possible, her favorite being Crime Dramas! She watches movies like nobody’s business and sings anything that pops into her head. She loves working with kids and is thrilled to be going back to camp this summer! It is truly her home away from home, and has been since she was in the fourth grade. She looks forward to passing on her Jewish knowledge and passion for religion to all of the GFC campers this summer.
Rachel Aaronson is a second year counselor at Greene. She spent her year at Texas A&M University studying chemistry. This next year, however, she is transferring to the University of Texas to continue her studies. She hopes to do research and find ways to reduce carbon emissions and protect our planet. At camp Rachel’s favorite activity is the ropes course! Rachel cannot wait to be back at camp this summer for the eighth year.
Rachel Bershad will be attending The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing in the fall. She has participated in a Clinical Rotation program in high school which gave her the opportunity to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and a Certified Pharmacy Technician. She loves spending time with her friends, playing soccer, and being active. She has worked with kids since she was young: babysitting, nannying, and being a camp counselor locally. She has been a camper at GFC for 2 years, and she is now very excited to spend her time giving campers an opportunity to have the amazing experiences she had!
Rachel Devine graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Texas in 2016. She has been dancing for 16 years and cannot wait to help out campers in the dance hagigah this summer. This will be her 8th summer spent at Greene Family Camp. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, going to the movies, and playing tennis. She will be attending Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana in the upcoming fall to study Psychology and Early Childhood Education. Rachel can’t wait to be a first-year counselor at GFC and looks forward to the adventures to come!
Rachel Kohnhorst is a Junior at the University of North Texas. She wants to graduate with an English Language Arts degree, but she really wants to go onto study at Hebrew Union College and become a Rabbi. This will be Rachel’s third year on staff and her sixth year at Greene Family camp. In her leisure time Rachel likes to read all the books she can get her hands on and eat anything and everything around her; her favorite snack is Flamin Hot Cheetos and her favorite chocolate is Heath Bar. Rachel’s favorite spot on camp is the stairs leading up from the zip line, but it changes every day. Rachel’s favorite color is pink, and her wish this summer is for her campers to have the best summer ever (and to see a shooting star).
Revelle Gerson likes cats, cupcakes, fashion, and water. She dislikes capitalism, itchy clothes, and ignorance. Revelle is a religious studies major and Jewish studies minor, and reads as much as she can in her free time. She also plays guitar and banjo, attended the Savannah College of Art and Design for two years, and is a loving cat mom to Sir Nedward the First. This is Revelle’s 1st summer on leadership as Kibbutz Assistant Unit Head, 4th summer on staff, and 10th summer at GFC!
Roi Sarne is a soldier in IDF. He is a computer programmer. Since he was a young child he liked to gain new expirences and meet new people. He was on the national ski team of israel for over 5 years, and he likes to play soccer, basketball, tennis etc. He love to listen to music and dance-off with anyone that would like 😉 He is really excited to be part of the GFC family this summer and he is sure that he will have a great time.
Roni Johnson is part of the Israeli ‘Mishlachat’. She has just completed four years in the IDF, two years mandatory service and two years as an officer in the Field Intelligence Corp. Roni began first as an instructor and continued to Officer’s Course, officer in charge of all the instructors and finally she completed her service as the officer in charge of creating instruction technics for her unit. Roni enjoyed eight years in the Israeli Scouts as a scout and scout instructor. This is Roni’s first time to be part of a summer camp in the United States and is looking forward to be a staff member of the Greene Family Camp.
Sahar is a 21 year old Breakdance teacher who loves to volunteer. He currently works as a Breakdance instructor at a community center in his town. From a young age he started volunteering and helped any one who could because he as a young child he was underprivileged so he knows how to help them. At 2012 Sahar was drafted to the army where he served is country proudly and was a Quartermaster Sergeant ICT and was awarded a battle ‘Operation Protective Edge’ Pin . This would be Sahar first year at camp and he is really excited about working with the kids.
Sam is an undergrad student at the University of Texas in San Antonio studying Information Systems. Sam is also a die hard San Antonio Spurs fan and tries to go to as many games as he can while living in San Antonio. This is his first time as a bunk counselor and his first time spending the summer at GFC. He is excited about being at Camp and seeing what its all about.
Sam Matsil graduated from Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy in Overland Park, Kansas in 2016! He will be continuing on to the University of Kansas! He has spent the last 9 summers enjoying his time as a camper and avodah at GFC! Sam enjoys playing basketball as well as hanging out with his friends. His is forever loyal to the University of Texas due to both of his parents attending the school. Sam is very excited to be a counselor this year for the first time and can’t wait what the summer has to offer!
Sammi Donchin is currently working on her associates degree in Austin, Texas. Sammi is from Oklahoma, and has been going to GFC for 13 years! Sammi loves traveling and being with friends. (Especially camp friends!) Sammi is very excited to be working with the Avodahnikim this summer. This group of campers have been with her since she was an avodah! We are excited to learn from each other and have an amazing summer full of laughs, friends, and Judaism!
Sammy Lutes is a college senior at the University of Texas at Dallas where he is studying Neuroscience and Political Science. In his spare time, he volunteers with his service fraternity, APO, is the Treasurer for his Hillel chapter, and is the Secretary, Parliamentarian, and a Founding Father for his AEPi chapter. He is also an avid election junkie, a mild board game enthusiast, and an occasional reader (when he can find time). This is his first summer at GFC, and he couldn’t be more excited!
Sara Crowe is currently pursuing a BS in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Sciences with an emphasis of study in youth development at Texas A&M University. She is very active in the Jewish community at Texas A&M, and is on the exec board of her sorority. Sara enjoys hanging out with her friends and doing ‘anything arts and crafts related.’ She is super excited for her fourth year on staff and to be helping GFC as a logistics specialist!
My name is Sarah Avner and I am privileged to serve Congregation Beth Israel in Austin, TX as their newly named Cantorial Soloist. I have two children who attend Greene Family Camp as campers and I am so excited to be participating as a Faculty member for first session. Besides the food, my favorite things about camp are getting to know the counselors, teaching and interacting with the campers, and working with the talented staff. A session at camp is the best continuing education a Jewish professional can ask for!
Sarah Cominsky is a rising sophomore at The University of North Carolina School of the Arts working towards a BFA in Scene Design. She misses living in Texas like crazy and has been dreaming about being a counselor since she was in Niviim. This will be her first year on the GFC staff and her 8th summer at camp. She enjoys painting, drawing, taking fitness classes, and cooking and is so excited to spend the summer at her favorite home away from home, Greene Family Camp!
Sarah Levinson is a student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. She is studying chemical engineering and has just finished her first year. This summer will be her second year on staff and tenth summer at camp. Her favoritething to do at camp is make friendship bracelets. Sarah cannot wait for this summer at camp!
Sarah Beth Gordon
Shaye Mueller just currently finished up her freshman year of college at The University of South Carolina. She is majoring in Art Education and is excited to be student teaching in the fall. Shaye loves hanging out with her sorority sisters, spending time with family, and is always crafting or painting something. Shaye went to Greene for 7 summers as a camper, and was involved in NFTY when she was in high school. She is super excited to be spending her summer at Greene Family Camp and cant wait to meet all of her campers!
Simone Levy is excited to start college in the fall at the University of Kansas in the honors program. At her high school, J. J. Pearce in Dallas, she graduated in the top 4% of her class. Her favorite subjects were math and history, two subjects she hope with help as she studies business in college. Simone was a drum major for her school’s band as well as principal flute player for the varsity ensemble. This summer will be Simone’s first summer as a counselor, but this is her 9th summer at camp. Fun fact: one of her pinkies is shorter than the other, but it doesn’t stop her from ‘throwing some hoops,’ making lanyards, or climbing the alpine tower. Simone cannot wait to meet all the amazing campers and make this an amazing and memorable summer for everyone.
Stacey Cohn recently graduated from Plano Senior High School and is thrilled to be attending Elon University in North Carolina in the fall. She will be majoring in theatre and communications, but plans to also be involved with dance, as well as an a cappella singing group. This is Stacey’s first year as a GFC counselor, but attended as a camper from Niviim to Kibbutz. She is so excited to spread her love of Greene with the campers. Stacey enjoys attending sporting events and fine arts performances with her friends in her spare time.
Tal came from Israel, he is 23 years old. He finished his army service at the Navy at March 2015. Tal is very friendly and loves to spend his time with friends and go to the gym. It will be the first time of Tal at GFC and he will work as a lifeguard. After the camp he want to continue to travel in Central America. When he’s back in Israel he wants to start learning law at Ben Gurion university.
Tal Schreiber has recently completed his military service as a head section (Captain) of an elite unit in the IDF, which included commanding both officers and soldiers and in a couple of years being a head instructor in prestigious training. He graduated in 2013 from Bar Ilan University (Israel) with a degree in Master of Business Administration, After BA in Economics and History of the Middle East in the Excellence program of Haifa University. Tal currently lives in Qiryat Ono, right at the center of Israel and on his free time enjoys doing all sorts of sports such as bat games (table tennis, tennis, badminton) and ball games, especially volleyball, which he also guides a residential team on a regular basis during the year and he’s very excited about being GFC’s Volleyball instructor this summer, in addition to table tennis guide. This is Tal’s 1st summer on GFC’s staff as a part of the Israeli Mishlachat, and its 3rd summer as a counselor at American Jewish summer camps and he makes wonderful S’mores:)
Tamar Ben Dor
Tamar Ben Dor has recently finished her two-year military service as a Red Squadron Commander in the Israeli Air force, in March 2016. She will begin her studies for a BA in Business and Asian studies in late 2016. Tamar loves adventurous sports, such as kickboxing, wall-climbing, water-sports and skiing,as well as music, art, theater and friends.
As a child, Tamar has loved going to various summer camps in Israel, meeting new friends and generally acquiring some unforgettable summer memories. As a first-time Counselor and Ropes instructor at GFC, her main goal is to make sure the camper have a similar experience, and is very excited to get things started!
Tamar Dikstein served 2 years in the Israeli Army, where she continued her service as a civilian for another year. In her spare time, Tamar enjoys sailing her own sail boat in the Israeli sea and has been sailing for two years. She especially loves the ocean.
Tamar is very excited to be part of camp this year, and this will be her first time at camp and in the United States. She looks forward to being a life guard, getting to know her fellow staff members, and having a blast with the kids.
Taylor is a 20 year old college student studying graphic design. Taylor’s hobbies include her photography and when the weather is nice, cycling. She attended GFC as a kid, and this will be her 11th year at camp! Camp is her home where she has made many lifelong friends and she is excited to now work alongside them and make camp magic.
Tristan Farias graduated from Westlake High School in Austin, TX and will be a freshman Engineering major at Texas A&M at College Station in Fall 2016. Tristan is a classical musician, and plays violin with quartets in Austin. He also plays tennis and is learning to play the guitar. He considers GFC to be his ‘zen place’ and is looking forward to making camp as much as a positive experience for other campers as it was for him in his many years of attending GFC as a camper. He is very enthusiastic about being a counselor this summer as this is first year as a camp counselor.
Hello! my name Is Yam Garman, 22-year-old from a small community in the North of Israel-called Katzir.
I especially love traveling in our beautiful country, shoot landscapes and mainly organize activities and enjoy with my friends and family. I am very excited arrival to GFC camp and is going to be an amazing summer.
Yaron Palchik graduated high-school in 2012 from ‘Ahah- Ha’am’ Petah-Tiqwa. He spent a year and a half working as a Judo guide with kids ages 4-17 before joining the army. Served as a combat soldier in the IDF and a combat instructor. Yaron loves all sports activities, his main sports is Judo and martial arts. Main hobbies are playing the guitar, snowboarding, salsa dancing and hiking in Israel. He is very excited to be a Mishlahat membership this summer as a martial arts specialist for the first time in the US and can’t wait for the camp to start!
Yuval Flayshman graduated high school in 2012 (art major) from Galili-high Kfar Saba, Israel. After high school she served in the IDF as part of the Search and Rescue unit. Upon completing her army service, she joined kibbutz Shamir and started working in the non-formal education system. She enjoys taking care of kids, arts and crafts and overall having a good time. Yuval will be a part of the arts and crafts team. This summer will be her first summer going at GFC.
