What will I do as a counselor?
NFTY-TOR Weekends include Summerpalooza, August 30-September 2, and Spring Kallah, April 24-26. NFTY-TOR is the Reform Jewish Youth Movement of the URJ for high schoolers. These events are planned by and for our NFTY-TOR tens. Most positions for this weekend are for bunk staff, staff members who will sleep with teens in cabins and will assist in activities that are planned and led by NFTY-TOR teens. During the day, you’ll interact with all teens, not just teens within your bunk, as teens get to select their elective tracks as well as opt-in to different free time options.
Camp Weekends are weekends that most mirror our summer camp experience. Open for elementary and middle school campers, Fall Camp, November 1-3, and Spring Camp, April 3-5, offer the fun of the summer packed into one weekend. Over this less than 48-hour experience, campers will experience a classic camp Shabbat, chugs and hagigahs (sports and art activities), free-time, bonding with bunkmates and making new friends. This weekend is designed as a camp reunion for veteran campers and a chance for new campers to try out a taste of camp to see if they’d like to join for the summer. As a staff member, you’ll be assigned to a bunk of 7-10 campers of one age group and will be their counselor for the weekend. This means spending the entire weekend making their weekend magical and ensuring the safety of all our campers: sleeping in the bunk with campers, assisting them at meals and eating with them, participating in fun activities, serving as the comforting adult when they might be missing home, and being the generally fun and silly counselor!
Family Retreats are weekends designed for families to experience camp! Due to the rising popularity of this event, this year we are hosting two weekends centered around Jewish holidays: Sukkot Family Retreat over October 18-20 and Tu B’Shvat Family Retreat over February 7-9. While entire families will be living on site, campers in 1st grade and above will be able to sleep in a bunk separate from their parents to experience the ultimate camp experience with their parents nearby. While younger campers will sleep with their parents, they will participate in activities during specific periods of the day with “bunks.” For this event, we are looking for staff who are great with our younger campers and can provide top level customer service to our adult family members on-site!
