The spirit of camp revolves around our Chadar Ochel (dining hall). The entire camp eats together 3 times a day (Kibbutz only at lunch and on Shabbat). We say Hamotzi (blessing over the meal) before we eat and chant Birkat Hamazon (grace after meals) after we eat. Mealtimes are when we hear the Hoda’ot (announcements?!) and find out what the day has in store.
Our food is prepared with kids in mind and served buffet style (Shabbat dinner is served family style); there is always plenty to go around. Friday nights we have a festive Shabbat camp family meal followed by song session, t’filah in the beit knesset (our outdoor sanctuary), and Israeli dancing.
In addition to the main course, campers can always go to the salad bar or make a sunbutter (nutfree) and jelly sandwich. In addition to meals, campers get at least one snack a day and there is always fresh fruit available.
Greene Family Camp’s food is kosher style. Although, not a kosher facility, we do not serve pork or shellfish, or products containing them. Whenever meat is served, a vegetarian option is offered, and a non-dairy dessert is made available. We will also accommodate campers on special allergy or health-related diets. Please make us aware of your needs in advance.

Greene Family Camp is proud of our kitchen and the food that we serve. Our initial menu was developed through a menu survey and reviewed by camp staff, parents, and a registered dietician. The menu is available prior to the summer for review by parents and friends. If you have any questions about the food at camp and our ability to provide for a camper’s specific needs, please email gfc@urj.org and we will be in touch.
