URJ GREENE FAMILY CAMP’S FIRST-TIME CAMPER PROGRAM
We are so excited to announce the newest addition to our Summer program, Machar!
What is Machar?
In Hebrew, Machar means “tomorrow.” This program is open to Kindergarten and 1st graders (’19-’20 School Year) who have never attended a GFC Summer session. This is a chance for our newest and youngest campers to “get their feet wet,” both in the water and in activities, traditions, and programs across camp. It is a little taste of camp for our campers of tomorrow!
Machar is a short introduction to GFC life and is specially designed for campers who are looking to try a Greene Family Camp experience during a two-day and one-night mini session. Whether your child has never spent time away from home or has had overnight experiences elsewhere, Machar offers your child a unique taste of the magic of GFC within a community of Jewish peers.
Campers will stay together in cabins and will be guided by our well-trained counselors and staff members. During the day, campers will participate in traditional camp activities, sing some favorite camp songs, and eat famous camp meals in our Dining Hall. They’ll be able to jump in the pool, climb on the ropes course, and try a new science experiment. And so much more! At night, Machar campers will engage in an evening program and will say goodnight during Siyum (our bedtime ritual). Machar is a chance for campers to experience all of the Summer fun that GFC has to offer, packed into two days!
Since this program will take place during our Summer session, Machar campers will be surrounded by our full-session campers, giving our young campers the opportunity to meet, interact with, and look up to the positive Jewish role models that are all around them.
This introductory experience is for YOU, too.
The GFC experience will begin as soon as you arrive on Saturday mid-morning! Upon arrival, you will eat brunch as a family, giving campers a soft-start to their weekend. After brunch, our counselors will lead campers to their exciting activities and you will be welcomed into a new-parent program led by our full-time team. This will be your chance to ask questions and get the insider’s scoop on what a summer is like at GFC.
You will leave camp after the welcome session, but there is still more in store! We encourage you to stay in Waco for the night, where members of our Camp Committee lay leadership will host an evening get together. There is so much to do in Waco while your camper is at GFC.
Want to know more about the incredible impact that GFC can have on your camper? Watch our new video to hear Executive Director, Loui Dobin, talk about what makes GFC special.
Camp is for everyone (in fact, family is our middle name!), and we are excited to welcome you and your family into our camp community.
