As we watch the Texas temperatures climb, the question we get most frequently is, “How do our campers stay cool in the summer?” We’d like to tell you how we stay cool in the summer sun without compromising on fun!

Our Schedule is Structured Around the Heat

With our schedule, most outdoor activities occur in the morning: our challenge course, sports electives, horseback riding, gardening – all happens before breakfast or in the time before lunch.

After lunch, most activities are indoors in the air conditioning or at the pool or lake. We do not have outdoor sports activities until the evening after dinner when the temperatures begin to lower. This doesn’t mean we’re not active in the afternoon! From swimming to playing in our basketball gym, practicing our gymnastics or throwing a pot on the wheel – we enjoy our air conditioning or cool bodies of water while staying active and engaged!

We Make Sure Everyone Leaves the Bunk with Hat, Sunscreen and a Water Bottle

As part of our Opening Day prep – our counselors make signs that say “Hat, Sunscreen, Water Bottle” to hang in the cabin – that’s how serious we are about this! Our staff and campers take serious measures to make sure they are hydrated, have their heads covered, and wearing sunscreen. From porch sunscreen parties to water bottle games, our counselors make staying safe in the sun fun!

We have water bottle refill stations all over camp in bright yellow Igloo containers filled with water and ice and our logistics staff refill them many times throughout the day. We also have water fountains and ice in our dining hall so they can refill at meals.

We Spend Time in the Water

From the lake to the pool, we have free swim everyday and find ways to stay cool using all of our water resources! The pool and the lake provide a great respite from the summer heat and helps us keep our cool all summer long!

Thanks for choosing to send your campers to us – we are more than grateful and we will make sure to keep them cool, happy and healthy this summer!
