Happy Thanksgiving from Bruceville, Texas! The weather this weekend was absolutely perfect. The trees are changing color, and it is breezy and cool. There were even deer wandering around the cabins!

Camp is home to many wonderful events and activities during our Year Round season. Not only do we offer programs for you, our campers, staff members, and congregations. We also make our facility available for rental to other selected organizations. Throughout the year, non-profit organizations, universities, and religious groups call us home.

The first ever group to which we opened our doors was the annual gathering of the Texas International Folk Dancers. They have come back every year since my first year in 1978, and their appearance at GFC has become a Thanksgiving Tradition.

My first summer at GFC, the Pool Director was a guy named Barry Goldberg. He was also involved with the Dallas branch of the Folk Dancers organization. The rest is history. There is live music, great food, and specialists in different nations’ folk dance traditions. Each year, the focus is on two areas of the world, and they bring in guest teachers.

The food is a real focus of the event, and our kitchen staff outdoes themselves. Sydney Benator, our new kitchen manager, was in charge of a crew that included JoNell and many of our summer staff. We also brought in a “guest chef” – Randy Marcks, Sheila Dobin’s brother – a cook and restauranteur. As I write this, we have served Thanksgiving dinner and people are still raving about it! Every year the event features a different ethnic cuisine – this year was New Orleans style cooking! Sydney and the rest of the team truly outdid themselves.

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. Don’t forget – our early bird discount ends December 31st for summer camp! We can’t wait to see you in 2019.

L’Shalom,

Loui
